I want to know who will go better in a basic offensive team. I like Donphan, but i dont know how to use him. He dies on me easy. Forretress stays a bit longer. Any suggestions?

I would use Forretress
Forrestress defense is higher than donphan with slightly less attack than him
Forrestress can learn toxic spikes, spikes, stealth rock and rapid spin , Donphan only knows stelaht and rapid
Forrestress has sturdy incase fire move comes along
Both pokemon though have low Sp def and that becomes a problem
Donphan has a lot more counters than forrstress

Well if it's for use on your fire team I'd go with Donphan. Forretress is more or less setup bait for threats like Landorus,Jirachi,and Heatran who can all switch into him without fear of a deadly move. Donphan on a sun team eases this and mainly helps with Tyranitar and Terrakion,both who are major threats to sun. The main thing that Forretress has over Donphan is the access to Volt Switch which will help your team gain momentum in a match. My best advice is to try Forretress on your team and then Donphan to see what works best for you.

Forretress can also learn Volt switch in case you need to switch and cause damage.

It seriously depends on your team playstyle.
Both have their own niches, so you should only select them based on their niches. Donphan does have Ice Shard+Strong Attack to play with, but Forretress gets spikes+T-spikes+Volt Switch. It seriously depends on what the team requires.
